Melt Pot Virgin

It’s still so cold outside that I’d quite happy to stay indoors and discover new crafting techniques.

Ranger Melt PotI dig out the melt pot I bought a few weeks ago and think, right, it all looks fairly easy so let’s have a go. I imagine that I’m going to produce the most fantastic embellishments for my cards…

I get started and read the packaging which doesn’t really give me any clues how I’m going to make anything. The pot has a sticky triangle on it, which is a task in itself to take off; I have to get the stick stuff remover! Anyway, I digress.

Thinking that the best thing to do is use a foil pastry case inside the pot, I don’t want to dirty it on the first attempt, I eat an apple pie – this has to be done first you understand. Once that’s done I start mixing some embossing powder, clear and red.

Hey, it’s melting and it looks really cool. I bought some texture treads, so once it’s melted I pour it out onto a heat mat and stamp into it. I don’t like it. Ok, let’s start again. I don’t think I’ve got enough so I start to mix a bit more of the clear embossing powder and a few more colours, but now the pie case isn’t big enough. Oh, forget the case, just use the pan, after all, that’s what it’s been made for!!  Next problem, no one told me that mixing a load of colours just makes it look sludgy. Oh well, maybe it won’t be as bad as it looks. So I pour it on to the mat again once it’s molten and stamp into it again, I quite like this attempt, however I still hate the colour.

What to use to make it look a little nicer? How about perfect pearls? After brushing on some colour, it doesn’t look too bad. So, I’ve just got to have a bit of clean and then I’ll get on and put a card together, well that was the plan.

Melt Pot 5In my cleaning frenzy, I’ve mislaid my little creation and can’t find it anywhere. I’ve looked all over so I expect I’ll now find it when I least expect it. When it has been found, I’ll make sure to make a card straight away and share it with you all.

Have you had any memorable experiences with a melt pot? If so, be sure to let me know, and if you’ve got any ideas of what I should do next with my hot cauldron please feel free to leave me a comment.

Until next time

Out of the cold

HobbyCraft NECBack home from Birmingham and into the warm. We had a lot of fun at the NEC while at the HobbyCrafts show. It seemed to be snowing the whole time the Fiskars Team were there, I’ve never known it to be so cold in March before. Even though the winter decided to stay for longer than normal, the lovely crafty ladies and gents still managed to venture out and come to see us, it was great to see you all, meeting the regular crafters and new ones alike. We spent a fabulous 4 days together and I will miss my buddies Kath and Rachel, however, we will be together again in November for the next NEC show. Ready to get into mischief again, I’m sure.

This time, I had time to shop as I didn’t have to do the Prima shows, and let me tell you, I managed to get some fab stuff. Anything sparkly and I go weak at the knees and there was no lack of glitter, gems and shiny items. I could definitely have brought the lot so I did have to seriously discipline myself.

There are some pictures missing due to the fact that I am totally amazed at how much I crammed in my car, I obviously had problems with self control, and haven’t emptied it yet!! I think a visit to craft buyers anonymous is due.

I also got a melt pot, which I’m really looking forward to having a lot of fun with, and if you’re a novice at using one, like me, let’s learn together. I know I’ll make lots of mistakes and I promise I’ll tell you about them.

In the next few weeks I am going to make time (space) and sort out my stash so I can get on and do some making. I will be using both new and old craft box goodies so if there’s anything you want me to do let me know.

I’m off to get ready for my airport run now, lucky me!! So, let’s see what the roads are like to Heathrow and hopefully I’ll get back at a decent hour and the journey won’t be too long.

So, until next time
